This is a very common question asked by millions of people, myself included. It is not uncommon to hear people talking about earning extra cash from using the Internet and so you start to wonder that if you too want to work online from home, will it work for you? Or is it just a pipe dream? No, it is not a dream and Yes, it will work for you too! Just imagine how much more time you will have to spend with your friends and family if you have a successful online business!

Well, you can stop dreaming now and start to get ready to earn money from home! The internet is a very big market as millions of people gain access to it every day. However, before you plunge right into starting a home business, you have to learn about the various possible online business models first. You do not want to start one home business, then halfway along the line, you found that it does not suit you and change your direction for another model! That will be wasting a lot of time. The best way is to take some time to study some of the more popular methods first and then make your decision.

So what are some opportunities available to you when you want to earn money from home? Here are some examples:

• Earn money from home using blogs
• Sell jewelry or other accessories from an online store
• Data entry from home
• Type at home
• Completing online paid surveys
• Selling other people’s products
• Creating and selling your own products
• Setting up websites to earn advertising money
• Selling items on auction sites – Ebay
• Developing web pages for local businesses
• Creating and selling graphics and software
• And many, many more

You can use any of the above methods to earn extra cash from the comfort of your own home. Some of them have lower returns and they are suitable for those who just wanted to earn some extra cash. However, if you are more ambitions, like me, then aim to start a home business slowly but you have to bear in mind that it will require a lot of work and time on your part if you want your home business to work. In fact, once you have your online business running smoothly, you will even be able to fire your boss and replace your current income by working from the comfort of your own home! That is the real beauty of internet – allowing you to own an online business and let you decide the when you want to work and how you’re going to work!

Having learnt about the various ways in which you can start to earn money from home, is there any criteria which you should use to decide which business model or programme is suitable for you? Or should you simply join the first programme you come across and decide later? Definitely not as you will only end up wasting precious time and effort, or worse even money! Take time to consider the following questions first before you decide which route is most suitable for you:

1. What do you expect to earn from your earn money from home venture?
2. Are you looking into starting an online business or just to earn some extra cash?
3. What are you good at?
4. What do you feel comfortable in doing?
5. How much time do you have? Each day, each week?
6. How much are you willing or can afford to invest in your new venture?
7. Are you patient enough? Or will you give up easily?
8. Are you willing to put in your best effort in your new business?

Answering the questions above is crucial to your online business success. You need to do something that you will not feel bored about easily and since this is an online business, you will also need to spend lots of time and effort in building up so you have to be patient. If you tend to give up easily, you might end up with failure. Internet business will work for you if it is done correctly.

Once you have answered the above questions, start by spending time to learn about 2 – 3 business models. For example, if you want to start by selling other people’s products (affiliate marketing), then I suggest that you use blogging as a platform as it is easier for newbies. You will also need to learn how to set up websites to promote your affiliate products and to capture the names of the visitors to your sites. All these are not very difficult to learn but nobody is born knowing how to walk – you will have to learn the skills of doing things right!

Once you have learnt the basics of the programmes and how to set up a blog, you can start to earn money, slowly but surely. However, the most important point to note is that it is possible to earn money from home and earn a substantiate income but you have to take action.
